The Mortgage Origination Program (MOP) was developed by the University of California to support the recruitment and retention of select faculty and senior managers by assisting them in purchasing a principal residence near their work location. Each campus or location determines participation in the program based on recruitment and retention needs and the availability of MOP funds from the UC Office of the President.
A recent UC change in allocation patterns for MOP funds now permits UC ANR to access a separate pool of MOP funds. Campuses and UC ANR can nominate participants for the program and must verify that candidates meet the qualifications for the program.
Only CE Advisors or CE Specialists in the Assistant or Associate rank who have had at least one successful merit or promotion approval are eligible to be nominated for MOP participation within UC ANR. To provide opportunities for MOP participation while strategically utilizing this program, UC ANR will prioritize MOP nominations in support of UC ANR's recruitment goals and retention challenges. Nomination decisions are made by UC ANR's Vice President and Associate Vice President for Research and Extension.
Nominations for MOP participation are subject to MOP funding available from UCOP, and demand will likely exceed available funds. There will likely be a waiting list for MOP applications, and not all qualifiable CE Advisors and CE Specialists will be able to participate in the MOP. We will make strategic use of the program to help increase our programmatic footprint, support early- and mid-career colleagues, and strengthen UC ANR's ability to deliver its mission.
