UC Davis distinguished professor Walter Soares Leal of the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology and a former chair of the Department of Entomology, was inducted as a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) at a June ceremony in Phoenix, Ariz.

The Bohart Museum of Entomology will showcase and celebrate the state insect, the California dogface butterfly, at its open house from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 16. This year is the 50th anniversary of the year that the State Legislature designated Zerene eurydice as the state insect. Gov.

Arachnids rule! The Bohart Museum of Entomology open house, "Eight-Legged Encounters," co-sponsored by the American Arachnological Society (AAS) and held June 25 in the Academic Surge Building, drew more than 250 attendees and 40 volunteers.

Reservations are now underway for the celebration of life for Dr. Eric Carnes Mussen, an internationally known 38-year California Cooperative Extension apiculturist and an invaluable member of the UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology faculty. He died June 3 of liver cancer at age 78.
