In the past year, the California rice industry has begun to deal with a new pest: weedy rice, also known as red rice. Weedy rice is a common weed in rice-growing regions of the world, and when infestations are high, it can significantly reduce yields.

Controlling invasive aquatic plants such as waterhyacinth, South American spongeplant, and waterprimrose in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta is no easy task.

A few weeks ago, we announced the California leg of a series of six national workshops to discuss herbicide resistant weeds. We're finalizing the list of invitees for the meeting in Tulare on February 15th.

A few months ago I wrote about starting some tests looking at various postemergence herbicides for non-crop use. This project was initiated due to new ordinances some cities in southern California were considering or adopted that limited the use products containing glyphosate on city owned property.
