Under the Solano Sun

One of my favorite late fall/winter blooming plants is the sunny "Mexican Marigold" (Tagetes lemmonii), which provides cheerful color in the colder months. This marigold isn't your small garden bed variety. It is a large, sprawling shrub that is assertive in both color and fragrance.

Now that rain has returned to Solano County and the nights are chilly, it's time to get prepared to protect your plants from upcoming freezes. Just a reminder there are a few simple steps you can take now to protect frost-sensitive plants from damage or death due to freezing temperatures.

With the rainy season coming our way, I've had a sense of optimism I've had a hard time finding these days. I've always loved the rain. As a young student growing up in the tropics, I loved the rainy season when we had typhoon No. 2 and didn't have to go to school.
