Animal Field Day at Crystal Springs 4-H farm had nearly 100 visitors in April. The event is organized by the San Mateo County 4-H Animal Science Animal Project (ASAP) committee, which consists of adult volunteers and youth leaders from the clubs in the county. Animal Field Day is organized to teach other 4-H youth, families, and friends about raising an animal for a 4-H project and show at the local county fair.
Twenty-one youth from the Burlingame-San Mateo, Redwood City-Cañada, San Bruno, and San Carlos clubs presented on biosecurity, swine, steer, market & show rabbits, turkeys, lambs, market & dairy goats, and show & market chickens. The attendees rotated stations and were able to learn about all of the animals. All of the youth raising animals in San Mateo County 4-H will be heading to the San Mateo Fair, June 8-16.
The 4-H Million Trees Project had an acorn planting activity for the youth to plant and take home. The 4-H Million Trees Project is a service-learning project based in San Mateo County that gives youth the opportunity to do their part in the climate crisis by planting trees.
This year’s Animal Field Day event was the largest turn out yet and we hope it continues to grow it in the future!
