The most common diseases of figs grown in California include:

  • Surface mold or Alternaria rot (Alternaria alternata)
  • Fig endosepsis, brown rot, internal rot, eye-end rot, pink rot or soft rot (Fusarium moniliforme, F. solani, or F. dimerum)
  • Fig mosaic virus (not yet characterized)
  • Apergillus rot (Aspergillus flavus or A. parasiticus)
  • Limb blight or dieback (Botrytis cinerea)
  • Smut (Aspergillus niger, A. japonicas, or A. carbonarius)
  • Sour rot (caused by several yeast species)
