Tip 12: Video & Audio Accessibility

Core skill: Provide captions and transcripts for accessibility.

Why it matters
Captions support Deaf and hard-of-hearing users, people in noisy environments, and anyone who prefers reading over listening.

What to do (5-minute action)

  • Ensure videos have accurate captions (auto-captions must be reviewed)
  • Provide transcripts for audio-only content
  • Avoid embedding critical information only in audio

Tip 13: Keyboard Accessibility

Core skill: Ensure content works without a mouse for accessibility.

Why it matters
Many users rely on keyboards, alternative input devices, or voice navigation. To make it accessible, all functionality of the content must be operable through a keyboard interface, without requiring specific timings for individual keystrokes, except where the underlying function depends on the path of the user’s movement rather than just the endpoints.

What to do (3-minute action)

  • Test your webpage or document using only the Tab key
  • Confirm links, buttons, and form fields are reachable and logical
  • Avoid keyboard traps
