Zesty Success: Cultivating Citrus in Containers in San Francisco

Description: Discover the joy of growing delicious citrus fruits right on your San Francisco balcony or deck! This presentation will focus on cultivating vibrant lemon, lime, kumquat, and select orange trees in containers, suited for our mild climate. Topics include:  selecting the right semi-dwarf varieties, choosing the ideal container and soil mix, and ensuring adequate sunlight and water. You'll receive tips on fertilization, proper watering techniques, and pest management to prevent common problems like leaf damage, yellowing and drop. Learn how to successfully grow container citrus in San Francisco and enjoy the fresh, zesty fruits of your labor.

UC Master Gardener Presenter Marcia Cohen: Marcia is a UC Master Gardener of San Mateo and San Francisco Counties with a passion for inspiring home gardeners. After a career in university and health care administration, Marcia found joy in the outdoors, exploring the diverse microclimates of San Francisco and hiking in the surrounding Bay Area. She enjoys both in-ground gardening and container gardening on her sunny deck, experimenting with native plants, herbs, and fruit trees that thrive in her foggy environment. She is an avid researcher of plant and gardening topics and also volunteers at the San Francisco Botanical Garden.

Registration is not required.
