CalFresh Healthy Living, UCCE Youth Nutrition Education Program in Action

In collaboration with 4-H and three local high schools, CalFresh Healthy Living, UCCE Sacramento County introduced the Cooking Academy Program in fall 2022. This program became possible through the established partnership between Sacramento 4-H, Elk Grove Unified School District, and Expanded Learning After School & Summer Programs.

Nineteen teenagers enthusiastically stepped up as Teen Teachers in 2023, eager to make a difference and expand their culinary skills. These Sacramento teenagers began working in teams of 2-4. Over a 6-week period, meeting once a week, these teens worked alongside groups of 2-4 fellow Teen Teachers to implement the program. The Cooking Academy curriculum was successfully delivered to 12 elementary schools in the South Sacramento and Elk Grove region.
