Preserve today, relish tomorrow

Welcome to a New Community Program!
The UCCE of San Diego County is happy to introduce a new community program: the UC Master Food Preservers of San Diego County.

Mission
The UC Master Food Preserver Program's mission is to keep Californians safe and well as they use culturally appropriate, research-based practices to safely preserve food in the home, reducing food waste, increasing food security, and providing engaging ways for Californians to explore healthy food.

Purpose
UCCE Master Food Preserver volunteers are agents of the University of California and work through the UC Cooperative Extension to educate the community on the safe practices of food preservation. Some of the activities done by MFPs are
Work in the community as local food preservation specialists.
Teach classes on various food preservation topics.
Answer food preservation inquiries by email.
Staff information booths and present food preservation demonstrations at local events.
Provide accuracy testing of home pressure canners for the public.

UCCE Master Food Preservers of San Diego County offer education on the following food preservation methods:
Food Safety
Low-Acid and High-Acid Food Canning
Dehydration
Refrigeration and Freezing
Pickling
