Congratulations, you found a UC 4-H Community Adventure Challenge! Let’s have some fun!
Your challenge is to strengthen your listening and concentration skills. If you want to be a keen observer, these are very important.
These adventures are located all around Yolo County (a complete list of locations can be found on the navigation bar on the left).
Below are directions for how to complete this fun activity.
There is also an activity you can do at home below.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Have you ever closed your eyes and listened to all the sounds surrounding you? Sometimes when we are thinking, playing, or talking our eyes dominate our brain. Try closing your eyes for a minute (set your phone timer) and identify as many sounds as you can.
- Now, click on each of the audio recordings below one at a time. Listen carefully.
- Walk around the park and try to identify and replicate the source of each sound.

1) Recreate this activity at home to play with family and friends! Follow these instructions.
Materials needed:
- Recording device (smart phone, tablet or computer).
Instructions:
- Make a list of sounds that you would like to record around your home. Fun examples are, knocking on the front door, taking a bite of an apple or hard fruit, filling up a cup of water from the sink, pouring food into the dog or cat bowl.
- Open the application that records sound on your device. If there is no application installed, ask a parent or guardian if you could download a free sound recording app.
- Record the sounds and give them a title.
- Think of one to two clues that can help someone figure out the sound if they are having trouble. Write down your clues for each recording.
- Ask friends or family members to listen to the sound and try to guess what it is.
