Proficiencies
Proficiencies
The Nevada County 4-H Proficiency Program is a new look at Incentives and Recognition. The goal of the program is to give member recognition and rewards in a timely manner and in a variety of ways to meet the diverse needs of today’s youth.
RECOGNITION: Members are rewarded for their personal progress working in their project. The intent of the proficiency program is to increase performance, while allowing members to be motivated, to be creative and to take risks. Completion of all five levels of a proficiency program in project indicates “mastery” of a subject. Youth will receive a belt buckle to recognize this accomplishment.
Each person develops at different rates and times. The proficiencies give each youth member a set of goals that they, as individuals, can work toward over one or more years. However, to receive credit for proficiencies completed in the current 4-H year, they must be turned in by August 1.
VOLUNTARY: Not all youth will find this type of activity rewarding.
AGE REQUIREMENTS: Primary members (ages 5 to 8 as of December 31 of the program year) are not eligible to participate in the proficiency program.
