Education
An expanded education program is currently being developed for the WSREC. Ag literacy activities and hands-on learning experiences for K-12 and university students as well as the general public will highlight the important research role of WSREC in our food and fiber production and in conservation of our natural resources. Specific crops grown in the western San Joaquin Valley as well as the region’s unique water and irrigation issues will be topics of particular emphasis. Students will also learn about the diversity of career opportunities in agriculture and natural resources.
Education programs will be designed to support classroom curriculum while engaging students in actively exploring all aspects of the food and fiber journey from the farm to their tables. Students and community members will increase their knowledge of agriculture and natural resources and will gain a deeper appreciation for the growers, researchers and others who ensure that we enjoy a safe, reliable and sustainable food and fiber supply.
WSREC welcomes interest from community partners who would like to support our expanded education program. For partnership information or to schedule a classroom presentation or tour, contact Atef Swelam at 559-884-2411 ext. 206 or email at aiswelam@ucanr.edu.
