I like having a day off in each January, February, and March. Other institutions have a run from New Year's Day to Memorial Day without any days off for faculty and staff. That's a long stretch, so I consider us lucky at UC to have little breaks.

UC ANR Sierra Foothill Research and Extension Center has been collecting and recording rangeland herbaceous dry matter yield values for close to 40 years. Sierra Foothill REC is among a rare and prestigious class which have consistently sampled Northern California rangeland forage (lbs/ac).
Avocados in some parts of coastal California have been blooming. Some of them got hit by the cold weather in the first part of February. In the coldest areas there was a little bit of new leaf damage, but this has been minimal.
