Ongoing research

I like having a day off in each January, February, and March. Other institutions have a run from New Year's Day to Memorial Day without any days off for faculty and staff. That's a long stretch, so I consider us lucky at UC to have little breaks.

During late Spring of 2018, we were honored to share space with so many wonderful community partners engaging in work to improve food access, knowledge and security for so many in the East Bay.

UC ANR Sierra Foothill Research and Extension Center has been collecting and recording rangeland herbaceous dry matter yield values for close to 40 years. Sierra Foothill REC is among a rare and prestigious class which have consistently sampled Northern California rangeland forage (lbs/ac).

I live at the very edge of the Volcanic Tablelands in West Chalfant.

Avocados in some parts of coastal California have been blooming. Some of them got hit by the cold weather in the first part of February. In the coldest areas there was a little bit of new leaf damage, but this has been minimal.

Advice for the Home Gardener from the Help Desk of the UC Master Gardener Program of Contra Costa County Client's Request: Would you please help me to identify a plant which is a bush when fully grown, and blooms in small light-blue color flowers in fall and winter.
