Prof. Vittorino Novello
Professor Vittorino Novello, University of Turin, Italy, was a special guest speaker during a week-long visit to the Sierra foothills August 1-4. His visit was for the purpose of a cross-cultural exchange on the opportunities and challenges of growing Italian winegrape varieties to produce premium wines in the California foothills.

Novello is a distinguished Professor of Viticulture and a recognized expert on the attributes of many Italian varieties.  He is current President of the Master's program in "Viticulture and Enological Sciences" at the University of Turin and a member of the European Consortium EMaVE (European Master of Viticulture and Enology).  

Novello is also current President of the International Organization for Vine and Wine (OIV) working group "Management and Innovation of Viticulture Techniques."  His main research topics are viticultural techniques, grapevine physiology, grapevine propagation, table grape cultivation and table grape production under plastic covering.  He is author or co-author of 191 scientific publications.
