The 4-H Youth Development program focuses on advancing college and career readiness for youth, particularly those from BIPOC and other underserved communities, through culturally relevant, research-based extension and experiential learning. Grounded in positive youth development, the program equips out-of-school educators with effective pedagogical tools and curricula to support post-secondary preparation and workforce development. It engages youth, volunteers, staff, and community partners to bridge research and practice while addressing systemic barriers to educational access.
The program also provides academic oversight of 4-H of Contra Costa County and 4-H of Alameda County programs, including clubs, camps, and after-school programs, while cultivating partnerships with youth-serving organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, school districts, and local colleges. Collaborative opportunities extend across UC ANR programs—including nutrition, horticulture, and community development—as well as with academic institutions like UC Berkeley’s College and Career Alliance Support Network. Through this broad network, the program works to deliver inclusive, impactful youth development across the region.
The program is led by Stepha Velednitsky and covers Contra Costa and Alameda Counties.
