In the past several years, Californians have witnessed some of the largest and most severe wildfires in the history of the state, with growing numbers of homes and lives lost. Because of these recent fires affecting our communities, partner agencies aided in the development of a systematic program to provide options for commercial livestock operators to access restricted areas following a natural disaster in order to provide care for livestock. In coordination with local agencies, the Glenn County Sheriff's office, CalFire, US Forest Service, University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE), Glenn County Farm Bureau, Glenn Range Association and the Glenn County Agricultural Department have come together to create a program called the Ag Pass: a livestock access pass. Ag Pass cards are applied for by and distributed to agriculturalists before a disaster. This pass permits commercial livestock operators with 20 adult animals or more to gain entrance to evacuation zones, or other restricted areas, to provide feed, water, medical treatment, and other care to their commercial livestock.
