In late September, Elkus Ranch received a wonderful donation! A family of three miniature donkeys were generously gifted and include; Romeo (dad - brown and white), Midnight (mom - smallest, dark brown), and Coco (daughter - light brown) who have all settled in nicely. Now that their quarantine is over, they have befriended the goat herd and most importantly, our resident donkey, Sassy (taller, light grey and a bit of a princess). The new family will be slowly introduced to visiting students while we figure out if they are good candidates for full access or stay in their donkey-only area during school visits.
Volunteer opportunities are rolling out at Elkus
H.S. volunteer day 11.6.24
We have had our first of four scheduled quarterly volunteer dates for local high school students and have taken two strategic, weekly volunteers into the fold as well. While the quarterly dates are booked, we continue to look for volunteers who want a regular work schedule at the ranch keeping our animals, gardens and facilities in tip top shape. If you live near Half Moon Bay and are interested in doing regular volunteer work at the ranch during the work week, reach out to the Ranch Coordinator, Amy abono@ucanr.edu to start the conversation about what it might look like for you.
Additionally, this winter we will be hiring another part-time Elkus educator to help lead field trips and camps, plus work in our gardens and on animal care. Please join our email list if you want to be notified when the position has been posted.
Happy Holidays to all of you from us at Elkus Ranch!!
