Bridging the Gap
UC Cooperative Extension Shasta connects local needs with the power of UC research. Our county team lives and works in Shasta County, delivering practical, science-based solutions across the region.
We support local farmers with efficient growing practices, pest and disease management, and improved water and irrigation strategies. We promote smart water use, wildfire and invasive-species education, and stewardship of our unique natural resources.
We strengthen community health through nutrition education, active living programs, and youth development through 4-H. Volunteers in the Master Gardener and 4-H programs help extend our impact countywide.
Partnering with local, state, federal, and private organizations, we are Shasta’s stewards, problem-solvers, collaborators and educators.
Shasta County UCCE is the public service and applied research division of the University of California. We conduct applied research and hold educational events pertinent to Shasta County. This partnership enables statewide intellectual resources to address critical issues such as rangeland and forest production, water quality, food safety, childhood obesity, wildfire, oak woodland management and youth development.
The UC Cooperative Extension Shasta County partners with growers, families, and youth to apply practical, science-based solutions in agriculture, natural resource stewardship, nutrition and health, and youth development. From smart water and fire-wise strategies to hands-on 4-H programs and kitchen-table nutrition, they’re embedded in our community to help solve local issues and build a thriving future. Our statewide networks of Agriculture, Natural Resources, Forestry, 4-H, and Community Health and Nutrition staff are dedicated to conducting research and extending results to farmers, ranchers, forest landowners, students, teachers, health professionals and interested citizens.
More than 300 campus-based specialists and county-based advisors work to bring practical, unbiased, science-based answers to problems across California.
As part of the agricultural community, we help farmers develop more-efficient growing methods, solve pest management problems, and improve irrigation methods.
As stewards of the land and water, we help develop smart water-use strategies; develop wildfire, pollution prevention, and invasive species education; and help preserve natural areas, waterways and farmland.
As advocates for healthy communities, we promote healthy diets and exercise for better health, help Californians learn to choose the most nutritious foods and help shape the citizens of tomorrow through the 4-H Youth Development Program.
And thousands of volunteers extend the reach of our work through the Master Gardener Program and the California 4-H Youth Development Program.
We work in full partnership with federal, state, county and private resources.
We are stewards, problem-solvers, catalysts, collaborators and educators.
We are the Shasta University of California Cooperative Extension.
