The 2025 course will be offered:
- Live online class: Thursdays 1/16/25 - 5/29/25, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM or Fridays 1/17/25 - 5/30/25, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM (choose either day)
- In-person lab held in Alturas: Saturdays 2/22/25, 3/22/25, 4/12/25 and 5/31/25
The University of California Master Food Preserver Program (UC MFP) invites adults interested in helping others learn about safe home food preservation to apply for certification as a UC Master Food Preserver Volunteer of North State. Prior food preservation experience is not required.
UC MFP volunteers learn research-based food preservation techniques, then share that knowledge with local communities through public demonstrations, presentations, social media, and information booths at farmers markets, county events, and the California State Fair.
Who can apply:
- Residents living in Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Tehama or Trinity Counties
- Applicants must be comfortable using computers and accessing the internet. Classes, homework and quizzes are all online in Google Classroom. Communication is done through email.
- Positive attitude, excited to learn, open to new experiences and mostly importantly a volunteer spirit!
Time commitment:
- 11 online classes & 4 in-person labs
- Approximately 5 hrs/week for online class, homework, reading, case studies
Course fee:
- $150 (includes registration, textbooks, lab supplies)
