Equine Science

4-H Equine Science projects are also referred to as “Horse Projects.” Our 4-H Horse Project leaders are dedicated to creating safe, positive experiences! 

  • Learn about horse biology, how to handle them, and what’s needed for competitions.
  • Treat horses with care and respect as you train and care for them.
  • Follow safety rules to keep people and animals from getting hurt.

Equine Education Projects

You don't need to own a horse to participate in a horse project! Through Equine Education projects, you will grow your knowledge on:

  • Horse anatomy
  • Breeds, colors and markings
  • Care, feeding and health
  • Equipment used with horses (tack)
  • Riding and training

Horse Education Contests

Test your knowledge as an individual or team at the following Horse Educational Contests at the local, state and national levels.

  • Hippology
  • Judging
  • Horse Public Speaking
  • Horse Quiz Bowl

Equine Events

There are 4-H Horse Shows at the county and state levels. You can subscribe to 4-H Horse Events Google Calendar to see what's coming up.

State Horse Classic

This annual summer event includes State Education Contests and a Horse Show. The State Educational contests that are qualifiers for the national competition at the Western National Roundup. The horse show portion of Horse Classic gives you an opportunity to compete at the state level with other 4-H'ers in various classes. Please see our 4-H State Horse Events site for more information.
