JFK Towers Project
John F. Kennedy Towers is a San Francisco landmark designed by noted architect John S. Bolles. The 12-story apartment building provides affordable housing for low income seniors, most of whom are monolingual Cantonese speakers. UC Master Gardeners work with members of the JFK Tower Garden Club to help improve and maintain the community garden and provide assistance in growing vegetables. Winnie Fong, a bilingual Cantonese and English speaker, is the project lead and conducts workshops for the residents each month on organic gardening, composting, irrigation, pest control, etc. All JFK Tower residents are encouraged to attend with the goal of increasing participation in the garden club and creating community through the enjoyment of gardening.
