About 4-H

4-H is a youth development program serving young people ages 5–18 through hands-on, experiential learning. The program welcomes youth members and adult volunteers from all backgrounds and communities.

Youth may participate through community clubs, after-school programs, camps, conferences, events, and military partnership programs.

Why 4-H

History

For more than 100 years, 4-H has provided youth with educational programs that promote personal growth and leadership development.

Learning environment

4-H creates positive learning environments where youth explore new ideas, develop skills, and discover areas of interest. Research demonstrates that engaged, self-directed learning strengthens outcomes for young people.

Lasting impact

The 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development, conducted in partnership with Tufts University, followed more than 7,000 youth across 42 states.

Findings show that 4-H participants demonstrate stronger leadership, public speaking skills, higher educational aspirations, and increased interest in STEM fields compared to their peers.

Mission Statement

The mission of 4-H is to help young people develop to their full potential. This is done by encouraging them to participate in practical real-life experiences. As a result of this involvement, members should be better able to lead satisfying lives as responsible, self-directed members of society.
