Well, it's that time of year when we say goodbye to the salads of summer. As the days shorten and cool, we crave the comforts of fall. Fall casseroles take a leading role in providing a family meal that is both warm and fulfilling. Casseroles can highlight seasonal fall favorites and produce.
I have two plants in my garden that are magnets for pollinators and butterflies. Both plants put on quite a flower show and are drought tolerant. Given our ongoing issues with water, this latter feature should be priority for all of us.

Recently I had a chance to interview John and Cindy McIntosh, long-time 4-H volunteers in Nevada county who also ran our Placer-Nevada summer camp this past year. The following are their responses to my questions.
So what causes these wounds on leaves and fruit on lemons? Corky, sunken blisters on the leaves. Small divots in the fruit. Some of the spots had halos around them, but most not. That would indicate an infection of some sort. It was showing up in a large orchard near Santa Paula.
