Show me the honey! The annual California Honey Festival, free and open to the public, will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 6 in downtown Woodland. It's about celebrating the importance of bees; the festival's mission is "to promote honey and honey bees and their products.

David W. Cudney, UC Cooperative Extension specialist emeritus, passed away in Riverside on March 30. He was 82. Cudney joined UCCE in 1964 as a farm advisor for Imperial County. In 1978, he became a UCCE weed science specialist for Southern California, based at UC Riverside.

A newly described bacteria species found more than a decade ago inside the gut of a stick insect housed in the Bohart Museum of Entomology petting zoo, now bears the name of two very surprised UC Davis entomologists.
