FoodCorps has held a special place in my heart ever since I served as a FoodCorps service member at Phelan Elementary during the 2019-2020 school year. It was hard work and also immensely rewarding to connect kids with healthy food and share the joy of gardening.

UC Cooperative Extension will host its first industrial hemp field day at UC Davis on Thursday, Sept. 22. The meeting will be held at the UC Davis Agronomy Field Headquarters on Hutchison Drive in Davis. Industrial hemp is defined as Cannabis sativa L. and required not to exceed 0.

Bohart Museum of Entomology officials have announced their schedule of special weekend events for the fall season. All are free and family friendly and all--except one--will take place in the Bohart Museum, located in Room 1124 of the Academic Surge Building, 455 Crocker Lane, UC Davis campus.

Papery Roses* *Sing to the tune of the song Paper Roses, first sung by Anita Bryant. Heat has always burned our garden roses. Summer blooms may last only one day. From yellow buds through pink and then just crispy, Those scented blossoms quickly fade away.

It's been hot and there is leaf damage. Those damaged leaves can protect the tree now and the fruit. Don't prune the the trees until you see the full extent of the damage and can still use those dead leaves to protect the rest of the tree.
