Why Folks at the Bohart Museum of Entomology Are Smiling--And So Very Grateful

If the folks at the Bohart Museum of Entomology at UC Davis are smiling even more than usual, that's because their UC Davis CrowdFund project resulted in 120 percent funded! In a month-long campaign, they were seeking $5000 by Oct. 31 and donors generously provided them with a total of $6000.

Cuttings of My Favorite Plants

Every year, I buy at least one new lavender (Lavandula sp.) plant. Each year, I kill at least one. Many years ago, before I moved to this house, I took cuttings of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) and rooted them.

Woolly Apple Aphid

Each fall my Gravenstein apple gets a small patch of fluffy exudate on the bark at the base of the tree. These are caused by woolly apple aphids, Eriosoma lanigerum. I hose them off with a jet of water which is usually the end of the problem.
