UC Master Gardeners volunteers are agents of the University of California Cooperative Extension, teaching people about growing plants, integrated pest management and to effectively extend information related to plants to the general public. Applications are now closed but we train every other year.
Carolyn Pickel is the Sacramento Valley Regional Integrated Pest Management (IPM) advisor for the University of California Cooperative Extension and the UC IPM Program. She is responsible for research and extension of pest management programs for crops grown in the Sacramento Valley.

NUTRITION TO GROW ON is a captivating curriculum that links gardening and nutrition through lessons that include science, math, language arts, history, environmental studies and health competencies.
EATFIT is designed to improve the eating the fitness choices of middle school adolescents (grades 6-8). National surveys show that a high prevalence of nutritional deficiencies occur during adolescence and that physical activity declines steadily beginning at this age.
Power Play! encourages students, grades 4-5, to eat fruits and vegetables and get 60 minutes of physical activity every day. It gives creative ways for the students to successfully do so. Children at this age are assuming more responsibility for their own health and well-being.
Eating Healthy from Farm to Fork...Promoting School Wellness is a nutrition education curriculum for grades K-2 that makes the connection between local food systems, garden-based learing, school foodservice and the establishment of healthy habits.
