Overview

The goal of this convening is to bring together local resource managers, researchers, and industry to assess the emerging threat of invasive shothole borers—including the recently identified Euwallacea interjectus (Greater shothole borer)—on Northern California wildland and urban forest systems. Through presentations, a hands-on site visit, and focused workgroup discussions, we will identify key research needs, management challenges, and response strategies to inform next steps.

A walking tour will visit sites affected by Euwallacea interjectus in Felton and provide attendees with an opportunity to observe indicators and effects of ISHB first-hand. Morning presentations will be provided by David Sanford (Santa Cruz County Agricultural Commissioner), Dr. Beatriz Nobua Behrmann (UC Cooperative Extension), Dr. Shannon Lynch (UC Davis), and Dr. Brian Woodward (UC Cooperative Extension).
