February is a great time to try lacto-fermentation at home! Join the UCCE Master Food Preservers of San Mateo and San Francisco Counties for an introduction to easy, versatile, and delicious fermentation recipes for all seasons -- from sauerkraut to mixed veg (giardiniera, escabeche) to cucumber pickles and to hot sauce. We'll provide a step-by-step tutorial on how to transform humble vegetables into a variety of flavorful fermented food, go over the basic principles of how and why lacto-fermentation works, and provide tips for taming the microbes in your kitchen.
