The goldspotted oak borer beetle (GSOB) has been causing significant tree mortality in the native California oak woodlands. These beetles are invasive to this area, and host oak species have not evolved natural ecological defenses to protect against this new harmful pest.

Oak Woodland Recovery & GSOB Management Workshop 2022

UCCE San Diego hosted a two-day workshop on oak woodland recovery and GSOB management in recovering oak woodlands. The webinar portion took place on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, and a field site visit in the Orange County area took place the following week, Tuesday, September 27, 2022.

GSOB Quarterly Situation Reports

In 2008, the goldspotted oak borer (GSOB; Agrilus auroguttatus) was attributed to be causing extreme decline and mortality to native oak woodlands in San Diego County. At that time, there was little to no information available about the morphology, distribution and management of this insect pest.
