April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month. We have twenty-five active Master Gardeners in our Program. We volunteer many hours each month to support the mission of the UC Master Gardener Program.

If you want to feed the birds, start by feeding the caterpillars! Most songbirds will not thrive or choose to nest in habitats devoid of caterpillars. The plants best suited to support a diversity of caterpillars are native plants, but not just any natives.
Geraniums have been valued in Fresno landscapes for decades owing to their beautiful flowers, lush foliage, and ease of growth. Less common are gardens with geraniums selected and grown for their distinctive scents and flavors.
We gardeners love our gardens for more than just their visual beauty. Gardening provides opportunity to engage with nature, creativity, and purpose. It connects us to the seasons, to the scheme of generation, to time. We cherish the fruits they bear, the bouquets they offer, and still so much more.
