Checklist

Order seeds for warm weather flowers.
Plan your spring garden. Rotate crop location from last year.
Feed camellias, azaleas, acid-loving plants at the end of bloom; feed 3 times during year: early spring, mid-summer, and early fall.
Check winter vegetables for aphids. A strong blast of water will remove them.
Apply dormant oil spray to control insect eggs on roses and other deciduous plants.
Use needles from pine trees as mulch for acid-loving plants.
Keep ground clean beneath camellias by picking up dead blossoms and leaves.
Clean up all yard debris to reduce disease transmission
Begin pruning fruit trees; remove and discard fruit mummies, all old leaves and debris.
Prune roses, shade trees and other deciduous plants.
Divide crowded perennials for additional summer blooms.
- Plant citrus trees in warm part of garden; protect them from the wind.

Vegetables & Herbs

Start seeds in green house or cold frame for onions, cabbage, peas, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli, some lettuces, tomatoes, carrots, chard, and beets.
Transplant seedlings or purchased plants of cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, some lettuces, shallots and garlic.
Harvest Brussels sprouts, cabbage, parsnips, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, rutabaga, and turnips.
Plant bare root grapes, strawberries, asparagus, and berries.
Bulbs and Flowers

Plant pansies, calendula, corms for gladiolus, candytuft, cineraria, dianthus, snapdragon, and viola.

Plant bare root roses, citrus trees, shade trees, and living Christmas trees.
- Shop for azaleas and camellias while they are in bloom, and plant them.
