Taste it! Try not to waste it!

Fremont Unified School District | 2024 School Meals Poster Contest Winners

The “Taste it! Try not to waste it!” poster contest invited students at ten Fremont Unified School District elementary schools to create posters promoting reducing food waste at their school. Student’s posters feature themes on promoting school meals and reducing food and/or solid waste from school meals. The invited schools included Ardenwood, Blacow, Niles, Mission Valley, Mission San Jose, Cabrilllo, Forest Park, Hirsch, Durham, and Warm Springs, due to their transition to reusable trays and utensils during school lunches in school year 2023-2024. Posters were submitted in April, 2024 and posted at schools in May 2024. Our eleven winners and three runner-ups come from six different schools and their posters are featured in school cafeterias across the district.

This project was supported through funding by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, AFRI Competitive Grant no. 2020-68015-30736 as part of the "Transition to Freshly-Prepared School Meals: Impacts on Meal Appeal, Student Participation, Intake, Food and Packaging Waste & School Finances" study.
