Managing Family Forests in California: A Guide to Stewardship Planning

General Description

Development of a management plan is a key component of stewardship of family forests. It provides an opportunity to develop a strategic course of action to accomplish a family's goals for owning their forest. Goals can include a wide variety of areas, such as amenities/aesthetics, recreation, financial return, reduction of risk, and maintenance of biodiversity.

We have developed a number of educational tools and workshops to help landowners develop a plan that meets their individual goals.

Workshop Dates and Locations:

At the workshop you will:

  • Learn the value of developing a forest management plan for your property
  • Determine the objectives that are possible for forest land management
  • Learn about forest ecology and forest management for your area
  • Learn about the importance of working with Registered Professional Foresters
  • Find out about state and federal programs to help defer the cost of developing management plans.

This workshop complements the e-learning module on this same topic (see:http://ucanr.edu/forestplan). Participants should complete the on-line course, and come prepared for more detailed follow-through and to get questions answered from UC Cooperative Extension forestry staff, and other Registered Professional Foresters.
