UC Master Gardeners of Calaveras County

Welcome to the UC Master Gardener community! Since 1980, the UC Master Gardener Program has helped deliver the University of California's pioneering research directly into the hands of those who share a passion for gardening and environmental stewardship. A program under UC  Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR), we pride ourselves on being more than just a gardening program— we are in our communities helping build more sustainable landscapes.

Who are UC Master Gardeners?

UC Master Gardeners are rooted in education and grown in-service! In exchange for training from the University, UC Master Gardeners offer volunteer services and outreach to the general public in more than 1,286 demonstration, community and school gardens across 53 California counties. Last year 6,154 active UC Master Gardener volunteers donated 446,237 hours, and 6.8+ million hours have been donated since the program's inception.

Emergency: Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter in Stanislaus County

As part of the Pierce’s Disease Control Program's rapid response protocol, visual surveying and trapping in the area have found 54 GWSS adults, three nymphs, one viable egg mass, and 11 emerged egg masses on both commercial and residential properties. The Stanislaus County Agricultural Department is investigating the area to determine the extent of the infestation. Click for a map of the current boundaries.

The PDCP has initiated a Proclamation of an Emergency Program for this new infestation, with treatments planned through November 2026. PDCP will hold a public meeting with the community on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. to discuss the response plan and will notify property residents before starting any treatments. Biocontrol is also being used to eradicate this infestation and PDCP has released 1,890 biocontrol agents at nine sites in the area.
