Fair Updates

NEW MANDATORY FAIR
REQUIREMENT

Beginning January 1, 2019, the Fairs and
Exposition Branch (F&E) will require all California
Fairs Junior Livestock (large and small animal)
exhibitors to annually participate in a YQCA
certified Ethics Training- with the exceptions of
Horse, Cavy and Dogs*
The YQCA online/in person training program is
mainly geared toward those exhibitors with
market projects, 9 years or older, but is required
by all small and large livestock exhibitors, which
includes those with only breeding projects.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR
MENDOCINO COUNTY 4-H?

All 4-H youth taking animals to Mendocino County
Fairs will need to comply with this annual
requirement.
Ages 5-8 years old are not required to by the
Fairs, however there will be a primaries Ethics
Training provided by Jessica Farfan on April 13th
at 10am- 11am. Location will depend on the rsvp
totals- either UCCE Office or the Redwood Empire
Fairgrounds.
4-H does not have any management
responsibilities regarding the YQCA. The Fairs are
responsible for letting exhibitors know about the
requirement and when the training needs to be
completed. Although we will do our best to send
courtesy reminders to our Clubs of the
information we receive, 4-H Staff are not
responsible for notifications, in-person trainings
or verification of certificates.
You can find a YQCA for 4-H Brochure on our UCCE
Website, under the "Project Leader Resources"
tab.

HOW DOES AN EXHIBITOR GET THEIR CERTIFICATE OF
COMPLETION FROM THE ONLINE COURSE?

A youth who is taking the YQCA training online would
need a pass rate of 80% on a series of three quizzes to
earn certification.
Once completed, youth will be able to download, print
or access their certificate number after passing from
the course website:
