How Does a 4-H Club Work?

Clubs generally start in September - October and go until May-June. Some clubs may have project or club meetings over summer. Club meetings generally occur monthly and last approximately one hour. Projects require a minimum of 6 hours of meeting time.

Record Books

4-H Record Books serve a variety of purposes in the California 4-H Youth Development Program. While society has changed, so have the goals of 4-H record keeping. 4-H Record Books allow members to reflect on their yearly work completed as well as maintain records of project and club work.

Star Ranking

Junior, intermediate and senior members may all strive for star ranks. Each star level takes an average of two years to complete. Star rank achievers receive a tangible star, which is often attached to the 4-H hat. Bronze Star: Complete at least 5 of the 8 PDR categories.

Im a cat person. Unfortunately, since my brother is allergic to cats, we only have a dog -- a dog thats been known to chase cats. But Ive found a way to spend time with cats, through volunteering. I first heard about this volunteer opportunity through one of my 4-H leaders, Lea OReilly.
