Carfentrazone is a contact herbicide that has been increasingly used in Californiacrops. Carfentrazone is not registered for use in strawberry but may drift to a strawberry crop from adjacent application to vegetable crops or caneberries.

Flumioxazin (Chateau) is registered in California strawberry. It can be applied to bed tops and furrows before planting. Flumioxazin controls little mallow (cheeseweed), filaree, clovers, and a wide range of other broadleaf weeds. Flumioxazin disrupts plant cell membranes which causes cell death.

Glyphosate (Roundup and related products) is a systemic herbicide that is applied after weed emergence and is most commonly used to control unwanted vegetation in the field before crop planting.

Pesticides can injure strawberry plants when applied at higher than recommended rates or under conditions that are not ideal. Time of application, weather conditions and growth stage of the plant are some of the conditions that can contribute to this.

Oxyfluorfen (Goal or GoalTender) is registered in California as a fallow bed treatment that can be used before planting a strawberry field. It is useful for controlling weeds such as filaree and little mallow, which are not controlled well by the fumigants.
