UCCE Central Sierra Agriculture

Bringing University of California research and outreach to foothill agriculture
The Central Sierra foothill region produces a wide variety of agricultural commodities, including over 50 wine varieties, stone fruit, pome fruit, berries, vegetables, and Christmas trees. Farms here are typically small, less than 20 acres, family farmed and deeply integrated into the community and culture of the region. Many of our fruit and vegetable produce are sold directly to consumers, and we have several agritourism operations where consumers can come experience the beauty of our area. Many of our agricultural lands interface directly with the region's natural resources, primarily forest lands.
Here at the University of California Cooperative Extension Offices, our goal is to extend research-based information and resources to all the growers of El Dorado, Amador, Tuloumne, and Calaveras. We hope to address concerns and problems that may be unique to our area and advocate for the needs of our growers in the larger UC network. The University of California offers many publications and websites to extend information. We, as extension agents, offer technical support, and hold events and workshops for the local communities.
