State Fashion Revue Category Descriptions
Mendocino County 4-H Extravaganza-Fashion Revue is a fun opportunity for 4-H members to show off the knowledge, skills and creativity they have used to create various clothing/textile and non-animal project related entries.
What is Extravaganza-Fashion Revue?
Mendocino County's Extravaganza-Fashion Revue Event is where 4-Her's can display their non-livestock projects!
Anything and everything will be on exhibit! Educational displays, baked goods, Photography, Flower Arranging, Pottery, Woodwork, Sewing projects and much much more!!

All 4-H'ers can participate in State Fashion Revue activities! In addition to the competition categories, 4-H clubs are encouraged to participate in the State Fashion Revue Service Project. This year our project is PILLOWCASES. If your club participates, please fill out our survey so we can announce the totals at State Field Day or during the Awards Ceremony.

You may enter up to two categories for the 2024 State Fashion Revue.
Please note the following category requirements when you register. Categories in bold require pre-qualification of County Winner at a county 4-H Fashion Revue or other qualifying event.
Traditional*, Costume Challenge, Make it with Wool*:
- Submit a full length photo of the participant wearing the outfit, head to toe, including shoes.
- Optional: One or two additional photos of an accessory or something special about the outfit.
Softie Challenge, Leather Creations, Quilt* :
- Submit least one photo of the item.
Consumer Science Purchased
- Submit a full length photo of the member wearing the outfit, head to toe, including shoes.
- Optional: One or two additional photos of an accessory or something special about the outfit.
- Submit photos of receipts
* Requires enrollment in Clothing & Textiles and Sewing Project.

2024 State Fashion Revue Category Descriptions
Age Divisions (Age as of 12/31/23)
- Junior, ages 9-10
- Intermediate, ages 11-13
- Senior, ages 14-18
Eligibility
- All 4-H Junior, Intermediate and Senior Members
- Enrollment in Clothing & Textiles and Sewing projects are required for Traditional, Make It With Wool, and Quilt categories only. The other three categories are open to any 4-H member.
- Traditional, Consumer Science Purchased, $50.00 Limit, and Costume entries must have participated at a County 4-H Fashion Revue or other qualifying event.
- Only one County Winner from each age division in the Traditional, Consumer Science Purchased, $50.00 Limit, and Costume categories may enter State Fashion Revue.
- Counties may award one Alternate County Winner for each age division in the Traditional, Consumer Science Purchased, $50.00 Limit, and Costume categories who may enter State Fashion Revue only if the County Winner cannot attend.
- Make It With Wool, Softie Challenge, Leather Creations, and Quilts categories do not need to qualify at a County 4-H Fashion Revue or other qualifying event.
- The winners in Senior Traditional and Senior Make It With Wool and the top two winners in Senior Consumer Science Purchased will qualify for the FCS National Championship & Conference Fashion Revue categories.
- All outfits must meet the 4-H Dress Guidelines.
Evaluation
The information submitted in the registration is printed for the evaluation panel.
During the evaluation, each participant gives a short oral presentation about their entry. Presentations are limited to:
- 30 seconds for Juniors and Intermediates
- 1 minute for Seniors
The evaluators will also ask questions and look at the outfits, garments, and/or items.
2024 Service ProjectCreate and donate pillowcases to hospitals, children's hospitals, shelters, or assisted living facilities. All 4-H'ers are encouraged to make fun pillowcases and collect and deliver them in their home counties. Remember to contact the organization to see if they have any requirements or guidelines. Organization options may include:
- Your local hospitals
- Local Women's or Homeless Shelters
- Assisted Living and Nursing homes in your area
- UC Davis Health Children's Hospital - Child Life Program pillowcases
- Ryan's Case for Smiles - CA chapters
- Claire Parker Foundation Pillowcase Project
- Enchanted Makeovers Travelling Pillowcases
- and many, many others!
Share your results
Please let the SFR committee know how many pillowcases were made and donated by completing the 2024 SFR Community Service survey. We hope to announce it at State Field Day or during the Awards Ceremony!
Resources for County Fashion Revue events
Counties may offer categories at the local level in addition to the State Fashion Revue categories. Only the State Fashion Revue categories will qualify for State Fashion Revue. Counties may allow members to enter more than one category at the local level. If so, each entry must contain different garments, shoes, and accessories. A garment worn in one category may not be entered in a different category.
