Adult Volunteer Enrollment

Thank you for volunteering! Your time, efforts and enthusiasm are greatly appreciated. You make our program a great success. 

Please follow the instructions below for completing enrollment for new and returning adult volunteer.

Requirements:

  • Adult volunteer: Must be 18 years old and up
  • Adult chaperone: Must be 21 years old and up

Were you enrolled last year?

Forgot your password or have a new email? Click "I forgot my password" in the 4hOnline enrollment system to get an email with a link to create a new password. The email goes to the address you entered in the enrollment system last year. If you have a new email or forgot what you entered last year, email smsf4h@ucanr.edu or call the 4-H office at 650-276-7422.

Do not create a new profile if you enrolled last year! 

New Volunteers Enrollment Steps

Screening Process

Complete the interest form.  Fill out the online 4-H Volunteer Interest Survey and a 4-H staff will contact you for an interview.

Complete the adult enrollment application in 4hOnline. The online application includes a code of conduct and confidential self-disclosure statement. You will remaining "pending" until you complete the other requirements. You will receive an automated email message from 4hOnline with links to the eXtension training and the password. Save this email.

Complete the criminal record clearance from the California Department of Justice (DOJ) through Live Scan fingerprinting. Here are the instruction and form for our county.

New Volunteer Training

Complete the Volunteer Courses offered online. Please check your Family email for the instructions to create an account and to register for a course

Log into the eXtension training site: https://campus.extension.org/ - New volunteers will need to setup an account and enter the enrollment key that you receive in the email after completing the volunteer profile in 4HOnline.

Search course title, “2020-21 California New Volunteer” – total training time is 3 hrs.

The County 4-H Staff will be providing additional training for club leaders, treasurer/treasurer advisor, project leaders, chaperones, etc. 

If you have any issues with the online courses, please submit a support ticket to http://ucanr.edu/survey/survey.cfm?surveynumber=27435. Please include as much information as possible (which lesson, what the issue is, etc.)

Returning Volunteers Enrollment Steps

Re-apply annually by December 31

All 4-H volunteers must be appointed annually. If you are a current 4-H Adult Volunteer, to continue in the next year you need to re-apply and be re-appointed by December 31st. Returning volunteers who have not completed the re-appointment process must cease all 4-H volunteer work beginning January 1 until re-appointment process has been completed and the volunteer has been returned to active status.

A break in service occurs if a returning volunteer fails to complete the re-appointment process for a full program year (July 1-June 30) You will need complete the new adult volunteer process.

Please do not wait till December 31!

Re-application process

Update your 4hOnline profile. Log in to 4hOnline to update your profile to enroll for the new year. Please make sure the Family email address in the system is correct and one you check regularly.

You will remaining "pending" until you complete the other requirements. You will receive an automated email message from 4hOnline with links to the eXtension training and the password. Save this email.

Take the Returning Volunteers Training in the online eXtension system. Please check your Family email for the instructions to create an account and to register for a course

If you have created your account and already have your county enrollment key, you can access the Returning Volunteer Training by clicking the link: 2020-2021 California Returning Volunteer Training

You can also log into the eXtension training site: https://campus.extension.org and search for the course name.

Payment of Program Fees

All 4-H members and adult volunteers must pay program fees which include accident and sickness insurance.

The fee breakdown: Adults - $24 (state), $0 (County), $TBD (Club). Your club will be able to tell you the required fee.

Approval

County Director reviews and approves 4-H volunteer appointments after all the application requirements and mandatory trainings are completed. You will receive an email when your volunteer enrollment is approved.

You must be approved before you can start any 4-H activities.
