If an author intends his/her manuscript to be a printed book or a multi-element curriculum kit, its concept must be approved by the Communications Advisory Board before peer review begins.
Due to the costs required to produce printed publications and curriculum kits, the Communication Advisory Board must approve spending UC ANR resources on the production of these materials.
Charts, graphs, and tables and all photographs and line drawings that provide important technical content (such as identification of a pest or plant) are considered part of text and must be peer reviewed with the text.
Sometimes authors want a manuscript peer reviewed through ANR but wish to produce the finished publications themselves, rather than by Communication Services.
The complexity and length of a submitted manuscript determines how many reviewers should be used in the ANR peer review process. In general, at least one reviewer should be from UC ANR. In all cases, the Associate Editor can serve as a reviewer.
When authors or Associate Editors submit a new manuscript to the online peer review system, they must select a document type. Their options are book chapter, curriculum, electronic publication, and printed leaflet.
Although the peer review process is essentially the same for all types of ANR publications, there are a few preliminary steps, both recommended and required, for manuscripts expected to become printed publications only.
These steps of the ANR peer review process apply to all types of publications. Step 1author submits manuscript to system. The author submits a manuscript for peer review to the online Manuscript FastTrack system.
