AE Peer Review Manual

ANR Associate Editors have a critical role in ensuring that educational materials published by ANR are accurate, useful and up-to-date. Their subject area expertise enables AEs to make informed decisions about submitted material and knowledgeably communicate with authors.

About ANR Publications

Peer review is required for any educational material that is 1) published as a UC ANR product, 2) assigned an ANR number, and 3) may be included in the ANR catalog. ANR peer-reviewed materials include publications, curriculum kits, videos, and CD-DVDs.

Multi-chapter publications

Assigning to AEs Before the Manuscript FastTrack online peer review system was used, authors of multi-chapter, multi-author publications, such as production manuals, typically submitted all chapters to one Associate Editor.

Revision guidelines

The Communication Advisory Board's original recommendation was that each ANR publication in distribution be reviewed every three years. This proved to be unrealistic in terms of time and workload.

Old publication evaluation and discard

To lighten Associate Editors workload, the Communications Advisory Board approved a procedure that thins out old and poor-selling publications annually without requiring them to be peer reviewed.

Reprints

In addition to determining which old publications should be discarded, Associate Editors are responsible for determining if a publication should be reprinted.
