Compost is multi-purpose. It can be used as mulch, topdressing, soil amendment, or as an organic fertilizer. Adding compost to the garden is one of the best ways to improve soil and support plant health.

Use this table to turn around problems you may be encountering with your composting system.

The real work of composting is done by a variety of underground inhabitants including earthworms, sowbugs, bacteria, fungi and other micro-organisms. Some you can see, but most you cannot.

Blackies Pasture Garden in Tiburon (now known as Harveys Garden in honor of former UC Marin Master Gardener Harvey Rogers) was started in March 1995, at the suggestion of the Tiburon Peninsula Foundation, on approximately 0.05-acre in a former parking area.

The 2100 sq ft Edible Demonstration Garden at Indian Valley Organic Farm and Garden (IVOFG) in Novato was designed and installed by UC Marin Master Gardeners in 2016 and is a hands-on teaching tool for UC MMG and the public.

The Speaker's Bureau is a service provided by UC Marin Master Gardeners who present research-based programs to the public on a variety of topics from the world of horticulture, sustainable gardening practices and more.

The goal of the Marin Master Gardener Community Garden Committee is to help the current community gardens of Marin remain vi able assets to their communities, while assisting future garden development to enable the healthy benefits of gardening are available throughout the county.

The Marin Master Gardener Help Desk is a garden problem solving/information resource provided through the University of California Cooperative Extension for Marin County residents. PLEASE NOTE: If you are NOT a Marin County resident, please contact your county's local Cooperative Extension office.

Marin Garden Walks is a partnership between UC Marin Master Gardeners and Marin Municipal Water District to provide homeowners in Marin with information and advice on improving their irrigation practices to help conserve Marins precious water resources.
