Virtual Field Day
Virtual Field Day: Integrating Livestock in Organic Crops and Its Impacts on Food Safety and Soil Health Researchers from Maryland, Minnesota, and California present their findings on the impacts of cover-crop grazing on food safety and soil health for fresh spinach and cucumbers in organic systems. This webinar will provide attendees with an understanding of how grazing of cover crops in fresh vegetable production systems can be implemented in 3 different climates (humid coastal, humid continental, and semi-arid). This work has been completed through funds from a USDA -ARS grant* in collaboration with The Organic Center, University of California, University of Minnesota, University of Maryland Eastern Shore and USDA-ARS.
SPEAKERS:
Amber Sciligo, PhD, Director of Science Programs | The Organic Center (facilitator)

California Farm Food Safety E-Learning Series
Survey on Impact of the 2020 Wildfires on Grazing Livestock Health and Production
Last year's wildfire season was terrible. In order to learn more about the impact of wildfires on livestock, please help researchers at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and Oregon State University by filling out a short survey (3 - 5 minutes). Results will help livestock owners to become more resilient during future fire seasons. Thank you!

Healthy Animals, Healthy People Backyard Livestock Workshop Series
In an effort to provide backyard livestock owners with the latest disease prevention and treatment information, the University of California is hosting a series of workshops in Northern California titled “Healthy Animals and Healthy People.” The workshops will feature talks given by some of California’s top veterinary professionals. Small-scale livestock owners and producers are encouraged to come to receive valuable information and practical tools regarding animal health, biosecurity, and antibiotic use under Senate Bill 27. These workshops will provide an ideal opportunity for livestock owners to ask questions, raise concerns, and connect with each other, local veterinarians, and county farm advisors. Workshops will be held in Modesto County on October 13th 2018, Sonoma County on September 29th 2018, and Contra Costa/Alameda Counties on October 6th 2018.
If you are interested in learning how to keep your animals healthy and safe, please register for the Healthy Animals and Healthy People workshop online, because healthy people need healthy animals.
