Native & 'Wild' Gardens
Gardeners frequently ask about “wild” plants or “native “plants” and the use of them in the garden. Our goal in these two gardens is to demonstrate both the difference between the two, and, through the use of elevation changes, what plants can grow in different areas. The Native Garden is a collection of plants indigenous to Calaveras County, anchored at the top with a redbud. The Wild Garden is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate what man has introduced to our county.
One plant we chose to represent a wild selection is a Fig tree. Both beds show elevation changes through the use of “native” rocks; the growing medium is simply “native” soil.
